Here are a few notable key trends

1) Aging population

This is a giveaway. The numbers are out and we’re constantly reminded of this trend that could be dangerous to the economy. Along with the aging population, comes numerous business opportunities - Health products, retirement villages, senior friendly cell phones etc.

2) Increasing health and beauty consciousness

Take more vitamins, drink more milk and give me my BOTOX!

We want health benefits fast and easy to consume or obtain. Massive growth in this area.

3)Increasing dependence on the Internet

We can’t do without the Internet. Our emails, our social network, Instant Messaging, online photo albums. Welcome to Web 2.0! (I will posting an article on Web 2.0 shortly).

All these means marketers have to update themselves on how to reach the market of tomorrow. These new consumer group are incredibly net-savvy and highly sophisticated. A really challenge for any marketer.

4) Increasing demand for luxury items in Asia

Asians are generally more superficial and has this thing about “mian zi” (face - meaning that feeling of being embarassed among more well off and a desire to not look too shoddy in front of others. Hope you got what I meant).

“I just bought this LV bag for $5000″, “I want that AP watch”, “I must look good in front of my old classmates” - Asian ASPIRE to be seen in items that will make the rest envy you thereby triggering a discharge of feel-good hormones. The coming years will be a blast for established aspirational luxury brands.

5) More air travels

Global warming issues remain unresolved and will worsen with more people making the flight in and out of their country (thanks, or no thanks to budget carriers). This trend affects largely the tourism sector. If your country is not aggressively marketing its tourism hotspots yet, better start now.

Ok that’s about what I could think of for now. And some trends that will NOT happen, stay tuned :D.
